ISN Psychology is the education arm of ISN, the Institute for Social Neuroscience, whose vision is to investigate the basis of character and temperament through the study of psychology, epigenetics, biochemistry, neuroscience and ecology and to apply these findings to improving the health of individuals and societies.
That’s quite a long sentence, but it expresses who we are and what we do.
When we set up the education arm, we wanted to establish a college that would:
- Enable students to graduates with the knowledge and ability to contribute to society through a deeper understanding of human nature
- Provide an open and inclusive environment where students are free to challenge the boundaries of understanding in human nature
- Draw on the new paradigm of social neuroscience to provide students a unique educational pathway to clinical psychology or research
- Contribute to society through psychology degrees that advance the understanding of human nature
We seek to innovate in the diagnosis and treatment of mental health through the multidisciplinary field of social neuroscience. And by applying results from our research program we seek to be global leaders in the field of psychology.
We strive to maintain an education environment that fosters boundless imagination and creativity. Our campus is a free thinking environment where we value the full range of human experience and what we can learn from it, regardless of political or religious beliefs.
We challenge the boundaries of understanding in human nature by posing new questions and seeking the answers through the lens of social neuroscience.
We have summarised this in our new vision statement for the college. We see ISN psychology as a place where imagination, exploration and application come together to advance society through the understanding of human nature.
